How to work out your Bra Size in our Bras

Here at Frantic HQ, we know how confusing it can be to work out the correct bra size for you. So, we decided to write-out a little guide especially FOR USE WITH OUR BRAS, to ensure when you are ordering from us, you will order the correct size. Our method is slightly different to other measuring methods we have encountered (especially on the British highstreet), but we believe this method is more accurate and provides a better fit. Some of the more eagle-eyed of you out there may notice our bras do not come in AA, DD, EE or FF sizes, this is because we draft-up and grade our patterns FROM SCRATCH, and as such we only deal with single letters at the is point. We have included some working-examples at the bottom of this post to help you put this information into context, and enable you to better-understand what all the figures and measurements actually mean! Once you have worked-out your size, you can go forth and order to your little hearts desire from our shop! Hurray!

How to work out your size in our Bras:

♥  Stand in front of a full-length mirror with a straight posture, wearing a close-fitting t-shirt without a bra. Take your tape measure, ensure it is straight and has no knots/kinks or twists, with the inches side visible.

Measure AROUND your UNDERBUST; which is immediately underneath your breasts, where you would imagine your bra to sit. This measurement needs to be TIGHT, but not so tight so as you are not able to breathe comfortably. Turn your back to the mirror and ensure that you are holding the tape measure STRAIGHT across your back. Write down this measurement in inches.

♥  Next, repeat, but not so tightly, around the FULLEST part of your bust. Again, ensuring that the measure tape is STRAIGHT across your back. Write down this measurement in inches. This is your OVERBUST measurement.

Now, our method may be slightly different to other methods you have previously been introduced to, but bare with us.

If your UNDERBUST measurement is AN EVEN NUMBER (ends in 2/4/6/8/0), ADD TWO INCHES to this measurement.

If your UNDERBUST measurement is AN ODD NUMBER (ends in 1/3/5/7/9) ADD THREE INCHES to this measurement.

THIS GIVES YOU YOUR UNDERBUST BAND SIZE.

Now, for each 1 inch difference from your worked-out underbust  band size to your OVERBUST measurement = one cup size. So:

A = 1inch

B = 2inches

C = 3inches

D = 4inches

E = 5inches

F = 6inches

Examples:

Louise measures her UNDERBUST, giving her an original number of 33inches. She then measures her OVERBUST, giving her an original measurement of 37inches. As her UNDERBUST was an ODD number, we add 3inches to the original number of 33inches, giving us 36inches, which is Louise’s final UNDERBUST measurement. Louise’s original OVERBUST measurement was 37inches, which is ONE INCH larger than the worked-out UNDERBUST, giving us an A cup. So, Louise’s final bra size is: 36A.

Anne measures her UNDERBUST, giving her an original number of 30inches. She then measures her OVERBUST, giving her an original measurement of 36inches. As her UNDERBUST was an EVEN number, we add 2inches to the original number of 30inches, giving us 32inches, which is Anne’s final UNDERBUST measurement. Anne’s original OVERBUST measurement was 36inches, which is FOUR INCHES larger than the worked-out UNDERBUST, giving us a D cup. So, Anne’s final bra size is: 32D.
